An Appeal

The Rotary Club of Chennai Kilpauk, (RCCK) through its Charitable Trust, provides relief to the needy in the community and is particularly involved with the physically challenged.

The devastating Tsunami wave which hit many Asian countries including India (Tamilnadu, Andhra and Kerala) has left many thousand dead and caused enormous property damage, as yet un-estimated. It has also displaced many families and rendered many homeless. Governments and the state machinery, though they are doing their best, do not seem to be able to provide co-coordinated relief on such a large scale. Many Non-Government organisations are doing their bit under the circumstances. Emergency aid is flowing in and is likely to be able to bring relief in the immediate future.

RCCK is looking at the post emergency period and would like to be involved in helping those affected by helping them re-start their lives by providing household start up kits consisting of a kerosene stove, a lantern, couple of cooking utensils including plates and tumblers and straw mats. While many would need shelters, RCCK will locate agencies providing such aid and team up with them and help in the re-habilitation process. The immediate plan of action is to assemble about one thousand household kits estimated to cost about Rs. 500,000 and distribute them to the needy in the areas of Nagapattinam and Cuddalore. This could be increased depending on the requirement by assembling further kits. RCCK is also planning to install three water treatment plants of 200 lts./ hour capacity for supplying safe drinking water . These are being sponsored by Pentair Water India Pvt. Ltd. and B.I Marketing and Services Pvt. Ltd. at a cost of Rs. 300,000.

In the second stage, RCCK plans to work with a small community and provide community infrastructure as well as micro loans in order that they may re-establish themselves and join the main stream. Of particular interest will be to help in re-establishing village school infrastructure.

Needless to say that all this will require enormous resources and RCCK appeals to each on e of you to contribute to this cause. RCCK is registered with the Tax authorities and the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act in India and its accounts are subject to audit and annual filing both with the Tax department and the Home ministry.
100% of the funds received are spent on our charitable projects with the members picking up the administrative costs.
