Need for eye camps was recognised in many parts of the city. President G.S. Rajasekhar and Director of community services Arnish Uberoi identified the locality of Nochikuppam, a community of fishermen on the beach of Chennai. A few visits to Nochikuppam confirmed after a needs assessment study was conducted and a meeting with the community elders was arranged.
The camp was fixed for the 24th of
January 2021. All attendees would be checked for eye defects, cataract
surgeries would be offered and carried out free of cost and sprctacles
would be provided by the club free of charge to those deserving.
The
camp was a huge success with over 150 attendees. 67 cataract surgeries
needed to be carried out and 48 paid of spectacles required. The
surgeries were carried out at Rajan eye care free of charge and the
spectacles were provided free of charge by the club.
